I have always liked elephants. They look so different than other animals and yet they seem to have a personality in so many ways. I was also challenged by the texture of their skin. This was a phun painting to do.
Cows in the grass
My nephew asked for this. I was a little reluctant because of the detail required in the grass. As I got working at it I found the movement in the grass to be more important than the detail.
Buffalo
Moved away from birds to try something with a little more action and intensity. First try at a buffalo.
Mischief with a cookie
After avoiding painting people for so long, I could not resist this little girl.
Sacred Grove
Just outside of Palmyra, New York is a grove of trees. In 1820 a young man named Joseph Smith came here to pray about the truth of religion. He was visited by God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ. Only the atonement and sacrifice of Jesus has impacted my life more than this event.
Little boy with ducks
I resist painting people because it is so easy to see flaws. However, my daughter requested this one and I like the little boy and the ducklings.
Reflections
This was a picture requested by one of my daughters. I really like the reflections. It is a peaceful place.
Bird
The reason I paint so many birds is that I find the beautiful and interesting. However, there is another secret. Nobody really knows what a particular bird is supposed to look like. If the beak is wrong or the eye slightly misplaced, nobody knows. You can make a lot of painting mistakes and still end up with a nice picture.
Owl
I really enjoy birds of prey. The action in this owl was interesting. The picture must have been taken at night and the bird was startled. The texture in the feathers was interesting to paint.
Golden Dragon
I have a grandson who enjoys fantasy. I decided he needed a golden dragon. It was a lot of phun to carve and came out much better than I expected.
